GYPPHY ethical/sustainable

Towards a sustainable society
What GYPPHY is working on

Uses ethical/sustainable materials

~Moissanite~

Some gemstones require large-scale mining development, which is a major cause of ecosystem destruction. Developing mines requires a large amount of energy, which generates a lot of carbon dioxide, a cause of global warming (artificial gemstones also require a large amount of electrical energy to produce, and thus generate carbon dioxide). Furthermore, there are problems such as these gemstones sometimes being used to fund conflicts.

Many mines have inadequate working conditions, and most workers work in light gear, without helmets or other protective equipment. Falls from the mines can be fatal, and many child laborers are employed there for low wages, working day after day without rest. While it varies by country, some earn less than 100 yen for a full day's work. The International Labour Organization recognizes this as hazardous work*.

The moissanite handled by GYPPHY is a synthetic gemstone, meaning it does not involve mining development, making it environmentally friendly and preventing its use in conflict financing or money laundering.
Furthermore, the moissanite used by GYPPHY is recycled/secondarily utilized from an industrial product with the same elemental structure as moissanite, which is obtained from a reliable company. Therefore, no carbon dioxide is generated solely for the purpose of producing moissanite.

*There are also companies that manage and operate properly to address the above issues and provide safe and secure natural gemstones.

~Gold/Silver~

At GYPPHY, approximately 10% of the metal used in our products is Fairmind Gold or Fairmind Silver.
In developing countries, gold refining methods that use mercury, which has harmful effects on human health, are used, and many children and women are victims. Furthermore, these dangerous jobs are performed for low wages, which is a serious ethical problem.

To address this issue, strict standards have been established for reducing harmful substances during mining, improving working conditions for mine workers, and developing infrastructure. Products that meet these standards are called "Fairmind Gold" and "Fairmind Silver."
Purchasing Fairmined certified gold and silver directly contributes to protecting the natural environment, supporting miners and their families, and helping local communities.
At GYPPHY, we are committed to environmentally friendly products and only handle items that our customers can purchase with confidence.

*The reason it's not 100% is that GYPPHY believes that an ethical and sustainable environment is important not only for the mines from which we source our materials, but also for our customers, contract factories, GYPPHY employees, and GYPPHY itself.
If we were to use 100% Fairmind Gold, the cost of raw materials alone would nearly double, making it unaffordable for customers and therefore unfair. Furthermore, this would undermine the sustainability of the brand itself, resulting in a world where only the mines are happy. Therefore, we operate at this ratio to maintain overall balance.

~Package~

Currently, the disposal of plastics presents many problems on Earth, including the destruction of marine ecosystems and landfill.
Therefore, GYPPHY is committed to using "FSC-certified materials" (license code: FSC®N003346) and "plastic-free tape" in everything from the jewelry boxes to the warranty cards used for packaging.

Furthermore, we use minimal packaging materials and avoid excessive wrapping while protecting the jewelry.
